New York State of Mind di Billy Joel (portata al successo da Barbra Streisand, la cui versione è più diffusa) è una canzone presente nell'episodio La nuova Rachel, il primo della Quarta stagione. E' cantata in due luoghi diversi: da Rachel nella sala circolare della NYADA a New York City e da Marley a Lima, Ohio, nell'April Rhodes Civic Pavilion.

Alla NYADA, nella "sala circolare", a Rachel viene chiesto di esibirsi di fronte agli studenti e a Carmen Tibideaux. Rachel inizia a cantare la canzone e poi continua Marley che canta la canzone come audizione per il glee club presso l'auditorium del McKinley di Lima, Ohio. La scena passa avanti e indietro tra l'esibizione di Rachel e quella di Marley. Rachel riceve un applauso dopo aver finito di cantare e anche le Nuove Direzioni applaudiscono Marley, ma sembrano un pò invidiose.

Curiosità

• La versione originale dura all'incirca cinque minuti, mentre quella di Glee (anche la versione rilasciata) è molto più breve, probabilmente per motivi di durata complessiva dell'episodio;
• Questa è la quarta di cinque canzoni di Billy Joel cantate nello show, ciascuna cantata in una stagione diversa. Le altre tre sono Piano Man (Prima Stagione); Only the Good Die Young (Seconda Stagione) e Uptown Girl (Terza Stagione). L'ultima è For The Longest Time.
