Maribel Lopez is Santana's mother. She makes her first appearance in Goodbye, the twenty-second and final episode of Season Three and comes back for her daughter's wedding in A Wedding.

She is portrayed by Gloria Estefan.

Biography

Blame It on the Alcohol

After Rachel's party, Santana comments she has been dry-heaving all weekend and when her mother asked what the sound was, she said she was practicing bird calls.

I Kissed a Girl

Santana says that her parents accept her sexuality.

Goodbye

She makes her first appearance at Breadstix when she is having dinner with Santana and Brittany. Santana decides that she wants to go to New York, not to college in Louisville, but Maribel insists she wants her daughter to go to college. She says New York would still be "there" after she receives her college degree.

She appears again when Santana cleans out her locker and gives her the money that she had saved for her to go to college, but she finally accepts Santana's request to go to New York. She tells her that she trusts and supports her decision and to do what she wants with it.

A Wedding

She goes with Santana, Artie, Whitney and Brittany to see the barn where Brittany was born, where they decide to have the wedding. She is present at her daughter's wedding. She sits next to her mother-in-law, Alma. She sings I'm So Excited at the reception with the rest of the mothers. Later, she's seen dancing with her mother-in-law while Brittany, Santana, Blaine and Kurt sing Our Day Will Come.
