Phoebe Kathryne Strole, born on January 22, 1983, is an American actress and singer. She originated the role of Anna in Spring Awakening and joined the cast of Glee during its fifth season as Penny Owen.
Personal life[]
Strole was born to Kim Dacus and Donald Gordon Strole Jr. in Fort Worth, Texas.[1] Strole has a sister, Annie.[2][3] She graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama. Her dog's name is Penny.[4]
Career[]
Strole portrayed Anna (and understudied the roles of Wendla and Ilse) in the Broadway musical, Spring Awakening, between 2006 and 2008. She worked with future Glee stars, Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, while in the play.
She was casted in Mourning Becomes Electra for three and a half months in early-mid 2009. Strole performed in Parade for two and a half months in the fall of 2009. She was in The Madrid for four months in early 2013.
She was casted in the recurring role of Penny on Glee during its fifth season, in August 2013[5] and appeared for two episodes in October (Tina in the Sky with Diamonds) and November (A Katy or A Gaga).
Strole was announced to joined the cast of David Henry Hwang’s Kung Fu as Linda in January 2014.[6] Kung Fu's opening night is set for February 24 and will play a limited engagement through March 16 at the Pershing Square Signature Center’s Irene Diamond Stage.[6]
