Alexander "Alex" Edward Lyons is a major character on Glee. He was a student at William McKinley High and the childhood best friend of Quinn Fabray. He was feared by most students of the school because his MMA background. He was a member of the school's glee club. Throughout the first season, it's revealed that Alex has feelings for Quinn, his childhood best friend. In season one, Alex has been in a relationship with both Rachel and Santana, but both ended, due to his feelings for Quinn. At Sectionals, Alex had brutally beaten Jesse St. James for making fun of his parents murder and for egging Rachel. Following Sectionals, Alex began a relationship with Quinn despite her being the mother of Puck's child.
Pilot
Alex first appears in the Pilot episode, training in the weight room for an upcoming fight. He's approached by his aunt Emma, who tells him, she'd like to talk to him privately. He then wants to think about joining the Glee club to bring him closer to Rachel.
Showmance
As Alex pays a visit to his aunt Emma, who requested him. He asks her if she's either Quinn or Rachel and she ignores his question, and asks why he won't join the glee club, Alex tells her that he feels he's not good enough. That night, Alex
In the hallway, Alex defends Kurt from Adams and Karofsky, fighting them two on one. After the fight, Alex is sent to Principal Figgins office and he suspends Alex for most graphic beating he's given anyone. Alex then calls Figgins a coward for not stopping the bullying and that the beating he gave Adams and Karofsky was what they deserved. That night, Alex receives a call from Rachel, who tells him she saw the fight and it scared her. Alex then apologizes to her for scaring her and that he's grounded until further notice. The following day, he's reinstated into the school and Figgins suspends Adams and Karofsky. That day, Alex with the rest of New Directions, went to Carmel High. He later heard a cry for help. While trying to help a young lady, he's overpowered and fatally shot in the chest. He's then transported to the hospital, but due to the large amounts of blood loss, Alex's fate is uncertain.
Personality
Alex's shown to be very compassionate, honest, trusting and witty towards his friends in New Directions, having learned that from his aunt Emma. Although, he's compassionate and witty, he can also be very aggressive to anyone who choose to attack him or his friends. Following the death of his parents however, he'd started to take up Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), at the age of 13, which made him very dangerous.
Josephine is Alex's adoptive sister and best friend. Following his parents murder, Alex was adopted by, Josephine's parents Carter and Veronica. They've grew very close to point of thinking of each other as real siblings. In Season One, when Alex got suspended, Josephine had to pick him up from school, due to the fight that broke out. Josephine eventually has a talk with Figgins, about Adams and Karofsky. She learns Figgins made a mistake, and decided to reinstate Alex. Alex's known to be very protective of Josephine as evidence, by his anger.
In Season One while Alex was dating Rachel, Quinn was jealous of their relationship, but she'd never showed it. After Alex joined the glee club, he and Quinn grew even closer, much to the dismay of Rachel despite her feelings for Finn. Following Alex's break up with Rachel, Quinn tried to tell him her feelings, but she didn't because of Finn. Later, Quinn reveled to Alex that she was pregnant, but the child was Puck's.
After Alex joined the glee club, he entered a relationship with Rachel Berry his next door neighbor. Despite their strong relationship, Alex and Rachel break up, because they have feelings for other people Finn, (Rachel) and Quinn (Alex). Following their break up they remain good friends. Later after Rachel started dating Jesse St. James, Alex made himself a promise to always protect Rachel. Eventually following Jesse's betrayal, Alex swore revenge on him for breaking Rachel's heart and to end the "war" he'd started.
Alex began a relationship with Santana following his break up with Rachel. Their relationship lasted until Sectionals, following the shocking revelation that Alex was in love with Quinn. In Season Two, Santana shows signs that she may still have feelings for Alex, but she then realized how happy he was with Quinn as they've been in love for a long time.
Emma catches Alex inside the weight room, training for his next fight. She then talks to him, about Glee club. He tells her he'll think about it as he's too busy preparing for his upcoming match-up in the octagon. Emma later, secretly tries to purchase tickets for her nephew's fight. That very night, she's able to obtain tickets and invites Will, who declines. Later, Alex joins the glee club, having decided it will bring him close to not only Rachel, but to Quinn as well.
Finn is very fearful of Alex, especially after seeing what he did to, Adams, Karofsky, Puck and Jesse. They've both been know to act like brothers throughout the Season One, Season Two and Season Three. After, Alex was shot, Finn sat alone crying out to Alex. Eventually, Alex reveals his feelings for Quinn to Finn, who already suspected him of those feelings. They both attack Puck, out of anger, but it seemed Alex grew angrier the more pain he dished out on Puck.
After Alex learned Puck got Quinn pregnant, he plotted revenge on him for what he did. He later attacks Puck out of anger and revenge, thus distancing himself from everyone, but Quinn.
