They should’ve done Sweeney Todd instead of West Side Story. The casting was really on the nose.
Sweeney Todd - Jesse St. James - This is on the nose. Jesse has the tortured man energy & vocal range accurate to the role. He can embody the anger & sadness needed for a traditional casting of the character.
Mrs. Lovett - Mercedes Jones - She has the motherly nature & raw talent needed to sing the female lead. She is maybe a bit too kindly to play a kindly & dark character like Lovett, but I do think she can pull it off.
Judge Turpin - Noah Puckerman - He’s tortured & brooding, also smarmy & enjoys having power too much. He fits the role like a glove. He can bring the gravitas & intensity needed to play a corrupted authoritarian.
